shelter series in progress...
"Shelter" by Angela Persechino 2015
Along with food, water and companionship, “shelter" is one of the basic human needs. It is a structure that protects one from the elements and provides a temporary place to live. On the contrary, “home" is often considered a more comfortable, permanent dwelling.
An uncomfortable shift occurs when our home becomes a place of uncertainty and the shelter we seek is internal. Needing an authentic comfort beyond the amenities…life saving necessities.
Protection, wether temporary or permanent, physical or emotional, is a necessity. Each piece created in this series represents a moment during this perpetual shift of susceptibility and protection, death and survival.
Using left over wood scraps from a neighbor's renovation project after their home caught on fire, various pieces are assembled in an intentional manner with symbolic intent. Placement, size, shape, tone and texture play an important role in setting the mood for each piece.
“Shelter,” a temporary space in need of a permanent practice.
